Here we present you at regular intervals news from the European work of the Vocational School for Production Technology (BS FT) and the Vocational School for Metal – Design – Mechatronics (BS MDM).

Two-years Erasmus+-project: Raising Awareness Initiative through Sustainability Education in VET (RAISE VET) 2023–2025

In line with our school’s commitment to environmental sustainability, we launched a new Erasmus+initiative (KA2 project with Spanish VET School, Armeria Eskola, Eibar and Technical University, Ireland): Raising Awareness Initiative about Sustainability Education in VET (RAISE VET) project This innovative initiative aimed at revolutionizing education and vocational training will become a factor of change within the framework of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

The main objective is to raise awareness among teachers, students and industry of the need and benefits of adequate education for sustainable development to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Sub-objectives:

  • Integration of Education for Sustainable Development into VET through a European cross-sectional module covering three weeks (1 virtual, 2 physical).
  • Fair Education Options: Creating teaching and learning materials that offer students opportunities for international learning, especially those with fewer educational resources.
  • Developing a sustainable mentality: the project aims to empower future workers with the knowledge and values needed to foster a more ecological and responsible future.
  • Green Skills for Technological Jobs: the initiative seeks to reflect on the ecological skills required in technology-related professions, with the participation of various aspects interested in ensuring a balanced vision.
  • Global awareness: the RAISE VET project is committed to raising awareness of the importance of Education for Sustainable Development not only at local level, but also at national and international levels.

The project will achieve the following results:

  • European Learning Module on Sustainability

Awareness campaign on the development of environmental intelligence and the sustainable mentality in the technical professions for the awareness of students, faculty, business and society in general.

As part of this new project, a group of international students successfully completed a module on sustainability at our school from 13.01. to 24.01.2025. They learned new strategies for sustainable living, reflected on their carbon footprint and researched renewable energy sources.

The project group, consisting of 4 Slovakian, 4 Basque and 4 German students, started after team training on a socio-ecological tour in the neighborhood of the school and received tips on sustainable shopping, finding fruit and fruit plants in the city, but also learning about the history of Marsplatz or Blutenburgstraße.

We continued on Tuesday with a climate breakfast. What is the CO2 content of a raspberry that has been flown in and what is the difference between an organic, traditional jam and an industrial one.

In the afternoon, the topic of “energy” was on the agenda. How long do you have to pedal to earn a piece of chocolate or how quickly can I heat water using muscle power!

The next few days of the module were dedicated to renewable energy sources, led by an excursion to the energy village of Wildpoldsried and followed by work with solar suitcases in Deroystrasse. We are delighted that our dual partners, such as MTU and SWM, also supported us with a guided tour of their alternative energy sources, such as geothermal and solar technology, to make sustainability tangible.

After two exciting and instructive weeks, the module ended on 24.01.2025 with a certificate handover ceremony attended by teachers from the participating partner schools, trainers and representatives of the Department of Education and Sport.
